Lonesome Lake Trip

2/22/2014

On Saturday February 22-Sunday February 23 Lexington's Boy Scout Troop 10 hiked up to the AMC Lonesome Lake Hut in Franconia, New Hampshire. Scouts drove up Saturday morning and left cars at the trailhead. From there it was a steep 1.2 mile hike up to the Hut.  After reaching the hut a group left their gear and hiked an additional two miles to the summit of Mt. Cannon.

The AMC hut is a seasonal hut thats is full-service in the summer and early fall. During the winter months the hut operates but it is self service, meaning that the troop supplied its own food. The hut did include a heated common area, but scouts slept in bunk rooms that were not heated, where the temperatures dropped to 28ºF. Scouts woke up Sunday morning and hiked or sledded down back to where the cars were parked.
